Abstract
This study assesses the role of farmers on food security in Benue State in north-central Nigeria. It also assesses the role of government on the provision of basic infrastructure to farmers and its advert impact on food production in Benue region despite the level of insecurity in the land. The paper adopts review methods and data are gotten from secondary sources. Based on the review, the study recommended that farmers should be given informal education through extension service with a view to enhance their understanding of modern agricultural production techniques to boost agricultural production and agricultural extension services should be strengthened with a view of educating farmers and rural households on the use of local resources to improve the nutritional status of their households. The study also recommends that food security situation in Benue state can be greatly improved upon if the cost of production in agriculture can be reduced and if the exchange rate prevailing in our country can be lowered. The study also further suggests that food production should be in line with the rapid population growth in order to save the country from the high rate of poverty.
