PROMOTING PRIMARY EDUCATION AS A TOOL FOR CURBING INSECURITY IN NIGERIA

Abstract
The paper examined the potential of primary education as a tool for providing solid foundation for the youths to develop the sense of commitment and cohesiveness essential for national development and security. Its aim was to ascertain how primary education can help well adjusted individual have the right values, attitudes, knowledge and skills to enable them develop and maintain self discipline for life. It contends that absence attributes or their wearing out from school, for whatever reasons contributes to the current spate of violence and insecurity in the society. It has been found that there is urgent need to raise school enrolment and detainment percentages, so that greater proportions of our youths will be given sound moral education and skills training to be able to socially and psychologically adjust to live the life of full integration, enhanced productivity and satisfaction. This will go a long way in curbing insecurity in Nigeria.
