Abstract
Many children experience difficulties in relating their educational pursuits to the world of work. They do not adequately understand the dynamics involved in career decision and occupational structure in the society. This article therefore discusses career development and the role of parents in children’s career choices. It also examines the factors that influence career patterns in Nigeria and the problems associated with career choices. Finally, the paper suggest possible ways on how parents can provide adequate information and assistance that can help nulture appropriate career aspiration and guide their career decisions. The implications for the school counselor are also suggested.
