Abstract

It is universally acknowledged that no nation can develop or become a modern state without well developed and flourishing technology programmes. Vocational Education as one of the crucial areas of the economy has been seriously undermined in Nigeria. The question of full-fledged industrialization and technological integration in the society is yet to be answered. It is unarguable that certain factors are responsible for this backwardness and demands full attention for Nigeria to attain her development. It is on this note that this paper seeks to x-ray the issues that hinder Nigeria’s technological advancement and identified some new areas of focus such as renewable energy, agricultural technology, waste management technology, information technology etc. It concludes that Nigeria should pay attention to tailoring her education to meet the demands of her economic and social development and recommends amongst others that a concrete programme of action should be developed to turn increasing economic globalization into a new opportunity for growth otherwise the country risks being further impoverished.
